“If you’re burdened down with trouble
If your nerves are wearing thin
Pack your load down the road
And come to Holiday Inn”

These are the lyrics to the beloved Christmas movie – Holiday Inn. And they certainly come to mind when picturing the idyllic winter landscape and twinkling lights of Fairhaven each holiday season. Victorian-era homes and red brick structures still stand and are adorned with lights and garland. Fairhaven’s century-old buildings and storefronts offer a scene reminiscent of a slower-paced, more wholesome time, complete with horse-drawn carriages each Saturday of December.

While the architecture has retained its antique charm, the businesses inside are blossoming with shops, restaurants, and cafes to suit modern-day needs. Whether you’re looking for one-of-a-kind gifts, a cozy cafe or pub to hide away in, or to simply stroll the avenues lined with dazzling lit trees and lampposts, Fairhaven is the place to be each holiday season.

Fairhaven Winterfest
Each Saturday through December 23rd, Fairhaven comes alive with kid-friendly festivities to celebrate the season with old-fashioned fun.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides: From 12-3pm free carriage rides will be leaving from the Fairhaven Village Inn to jaunt about historic Fairhaven.

Find the Elves Treasure Hunt: Father Christmas’ eight “elves” are tucked away in various Fairhaven venues for participants to hunt down and collect passport stamps for. Passports are distributed by Village Books and completed passports can be turned in at any location that hosts an elf to be entered into a drawing on Saturday, December 23rd.

Letters to Father Christmas: Children are welcome to leave a letter or wish list for Father Christmas in the classic Victorian mailbox located on the Village Green stage. “Fairhaven Elves” are in charge of delivering the letters to the Big Guy.

Window Display Contest: The Historic Fairhaven Association has partnered with Sustainable Connections’ “Buy Local for the Holidays” program to ask for your vote of most festive windows in Fairhaven. Window displays created by participating local businesses will be voted on by the public, Mayor of Bellingham, and surrounding business owners to win the heart of the community. Visit Sustainable Connections to vote!
