Dog Days of Summer Festival
The Whatcom Humane Society’s (WHS) annual Dog Days of Summer Run/Walk & Festival is today!
The softball fields at nearby Lake Padden Park will be transformed into a giant playground for dogs and their people. Festivities will begin with a 5k fun run/walk for dogs and people (see separate listing on this site) followed by a FREE family festival for all animal lovers.
The Dog Days of Summer Festival will feature:
- over 45 pet related vendors,
- interactive doggie games and contests (prizes and giveaways will be awarded to all four legged participants)
- an animal caricaturist,
- canine demonstrations,
- a dog agility area,
- kids area,
- a vegetarian food court
- and much more.
The animal friendly vendors will offer products for sale, giveaways, and information. Participants will include animal rescue groups, pet supply vendors, animal photographers, animal communicators, animal-themed artists/jewelry, pet groomers, local pet related businesses, positive, reward based dog trainers and a vegetarian food court.
Proceeds from the Dog Days of Summer event benefit the Whatcom Humane Society. Last year, WHS provided comfort and care for over 4,000 domestic and native wild animals throughout Whatcom County.
As an open-admission shelter, WHS turns no animal away, regardless of the animal’s breed, medical or physical condition, age or temperament. WHS provides 24-hour-a-day animal control and rescue services for Whatcom County. The shelter operates a wildlife rehabilitation center as well as a farm facility for horses and other livestock. WHS offers a number of ongoing community outreach and humane education programs throughout Whatcom County including a low-cost spay/neuter program and pet food bank.
