The first movie of the season opened to a packed Village Green.

Joe and Doug welcome the audience members. Doug and his Epic Events Productions has managed the Outdoor Cinema for five years now, developing it into a full evening of entertainment.

People settle in at favored viewing places on the Village Green up to two hours before the movie starts. A warm sunny evening is always welcome.

The movie tonight was "Whip It" about a teenage girl in Texas who gets involved with roller derby. And so, of course, our own Bellingham Roller Betties were invited as guests for the evening.

Doug Borneman makes an announcement. And Marion Weston really likes it.

Our classic view of the Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema on the Village Green, bordered by the historic buildings from the 1800s.

Early arrivals at the ticket table. Just before the movie, a raffle is held as ticket numbers are drawn from a hat and with prizes from sponsors of the evening, including hot, ready to enjoy pizzas from Fairhaven Pizza.

These gals won a contest on KAFE radio this week which got them a three course dinner from the Big Fat Fish Co. restaurant and served to them by a waiter to their table under one of the pergolas on the Village Green. Just more fun in Fairhaven.

Tom of Fairhaven Pizza has hot slices of four types for serving up till the movie starts.

Annie and Tom set up their own unique theater seats from one of the pergolas.

The Marion Weston Band plays while teenagers dance.

Joe and Sammy man the control booth under the pergola. Notice the projector on a stand next to the pergola post. It can project a perfectly rectangular image on the screen from this angle from off center and thus there is no projector in the view of any audience members.

We can't just show the backs of Sammy and Joe. They are members of Doug's crew.

The Marion Weston Band. Really fine singing from this gal who was born and raised right here in Bellingham. Her four instrumentalists provided really great music.

Kelli and her "Juice Peddler" bar. You peddle to blend your smoothie. Really neat. Kelli sort of invented this. Your photographer has peddled for his drink and it is fun. Want Kelli at your event? Her email is: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

When the little ones dance to the music it always seems to me like an extra compliment.

The sun is setting and the band plays on as the crowd grows. The beautiful new Village Books building fits right in with the historic buildings.

A view from the dining deck of a restaurant next to the Village Green.

Peddling for his juice. You can see it is a modified bicycle, with the chain driving the front wheel, which then spins the vertical shaft for the blender. Got that? It works. Really.

We leave you with a final view of the Village Green as darkness sets in. It is actually much darker than this photo implies. There are 10 movies each summer on the Village Green, starting late June and running through till late August or early September. All are on Saturday evenings. They have played continuously since before the Village Green was formally constructed - since it was an open grass field.
