Merchant Meetings

Monthly Merchant meetings are open to participation by all members. Non-members are welcome. Discussion items include marketing, events, news, publicity, introductions of new business owners, and often a presentation on a relevant Fairhaven issue. Meetings are held at Village Books in the downstairs author reading area, and start at 9 am sharp, ending just before 10 am so merchants may get their businesses open. Enter through the Colophon Cafe door off the Village Green.

Merchant meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month, except there is no meeting in December.

Board of Directors Meetings

All Association members are welcome to attend board meetings. Meetings are on the second Thursday of each month, except there are no meetings in August and December.  Meetings are in the Salud! Spanish Programs room in McKenzie Alley, next to the Rustic Coffee shop.  Meetings start at 6:15 pm.    In March, the board meeting is the Annual Membership meeting.

Annual Membership Meeting - next one is Thursday, March 10, 2016 - 6:00 to 8:00 pm - location TBD.  All members are encouraged to attend. The Board will give their annual report to the members, and this is also a social meeting for all. Refreshments will be served.  An email to all members in February will specify where the meeting will take place.

The Historic Fairhaven Association (HFA) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization founded in 1972 to promote the Fairhaven area while preserving its historic character.  The Historic Fairhaven Association board of directors and members work together year round to promote the success of the district.

Membership dues are leveraged to reach and draw thousands to Fairhaven through fundraising events  promoting the success of this district through advertising, press relations, brochures, district beautification, website presence, holiday decorations and events.  We look forward to your participation and the value you bring to our community in  support of these efforts.

  • Business Listing:  Your business name, address, and phone number including primary business category, business tag line and hot phone number on the ‘mobile’ site for smart phones will be listed on (a $50 Value!)


  • Historic Fairhaven updates:  Updates keep you informed of key business news in Fairhaven and occur twice per week

  • Emergency Alert Program (Optional):   This is a program designed to alert participating Active Members to immediate non-medical dangers ( e.g., shoplifters, counterfeit bills being passed , thefts, or other similar concerns in our district)

  • Merchant Discount Card Program (Optional):  HFA members have the opportunity to advertise and offer specials, discounts, or deals that are available to any HFA cardholding Active Member/Active Member Employee.  This program is optional and reciprocity is not a requirement.  In addition to the benefit of holding a card, your advertised offer helps drive business that may not normally be driven your way from other HFA members.  The list of participating HFA businesses and the specials offered is available online at 

  • Annual Window Placard:  HFA provides a window placard or decal that proudly displays your membership in the Historic Fairhaven Association for the current membership year


  • Monthly Merchant Meetings:  Each month, the merchant meetings are held for the benefit of members.  It’s a chance to network with other members, get to know your neighbors, hear information on key topics concerning Fairhaven and an all-around good time

  • Discounts to Educational Seminars:  HFA works to obtain discounts on a variety of business related topics to intended to help educate and/or grow businesses

  • Vending at Fairhaven Festival Events:  Members receive preference, advance notification and discounts on available vendor space at all Fairhaven Festival Events.


All HFA memberships are renewed annually in June for the July 1st-June 30th dues year.  If you join or renew from June thru September, dues are 100%.  If you join as a new member from October thru December, they are 75%; January thru March are 50%; and April thru May are 25%.  Dues remain at 100% year round for renewing members.

Dues are based on Membership Type.  Participation in the Advertising Support is optional ~ however, the more businesses that contribute toward advertising, the better job we can do with exposure for us all!  

Individual and Non-Profit organizations are $50/year

Business of 1-5 owners/employees is $95/year; 6-15 is $125/year; 16 + is $150/year

Suggested advertising support amounts are from $100 to $300.

Board of Directors

The Board meets monthly and conducts the business of the Association. Election of the Directors by all Association members takes place each November. Directors are elected for two year terms with a portion being elected each year. For 2015, there are 15 Directors. The last election was in November 2014.
