The free event sponsored by the Port of Bellingham--for the 22nd year this year!-- is at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, right  here in Fairhaven, for three days, Friday, December 7 through Sunday, December 9.

This family-friendly event will feature performances from local bands, choirs and dance troupes, along with fire truck rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, art activities for children, Santa Claus, and the gingerbread house display (info on the contest below).

Tonight (and Saturday night) is also the Bellingham Yacht Club's Lighted Boat Parade, which begins at Squalicum Harbor, across the bay, at 6pm, with a turn-around right in front of the Cruise Terminal.

Photos with Santa: Friday, Dec 7, 4-8 pm; Saturday, Dec. 8, 1-5 pm; Sunday, Dec. 9, 1-5 pm

Santa will be waiting to hear children’s wishes and pose for portraits shot by Mark Turner. He'll photograph the young and young at heart, in individual, family, or group poses with Santa Claus. Portrait packages including two 5x7 portraits begin at $20, and other prints, packages, or custom items may be ordered. Gingerbread House Contest:

The gingerbread house contest--now in its 17th year-- is free and open to bakers of all abilities and ages. New for 2012 is a themed category, "Uniquely Whatcom," and anyone, of any age, and any group size, may choose to enter the theme category instead of one of the other categories. Don't want to follow the theme? You don't have to. Just pick from one of the other categories in the contest online form. Many adults and children make a tradition out of entering the contest, and prizes are awarded for first place in each of the contest categories: 

Business / nonprofit; Family; Individual adult; Professional baker / caterer; Senior citizen (65 years and older); Youth five years and under; Youth grades K-3; Youth grades 4-8; Youth grades 9-12; Theme "Uniquely Whatcom"  Entry Form Deadline: Tuesday, Dec. 4; Edible Structure Delivery Date; Wednesday, Dec. 5.
